Most of us leave our homes in the morning with a full expectation of returning there at the end of the workday. This did not happen for three courageous and compassionate women who had devoted their careers to helping a vulnerable and misunderstood population. Three administrators and clinicians of the Pathway Home program at the California Veteran’s Home in Yountville were killed by a former resident of their program. This program has been providing treatment to Veterans returning from military duty in the Middle East, assisting them in transitioning back to mainstream society. Our deepest condolences are extended to the families and friends of the victims, to the residents of the Veterans Home, and to the community of Yountville. This tragedy may very well be repeated if we cannot gain further and intense understanding of the complexities involved in these unimaginable crimes
